Baseball Roundup 5-1-09: 'Rabbits win in walk-off fashion

VICTORVILLE • Aaron Gibson drew a walk with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to give the Victor Valley baseball team a 6-5 walk-off win over Granite Hills in a wild Desert Sky League game on Friday.

Victor Valley (13-8, 5-3 DSL) led 4-0 heading into the seventh inning. Granite Hills rallied for five runs to take a 5-4 lead, before the Jackrabbits came back with two more in the bottom half to win.

The Jackrabbits’ Mark Lopez threw six scoreless innings giving up three hits, before two Cougars reached and he was relieved. Alex Pollard went 3-for-3 with a double, and Daniel Burgum hit 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Victor Valley trails Barstow by a game in the standings and plays the Aztecs twice next week, beginning with a home game on Wednesday. The two teams wrap up the series on Friday.

SILVERADO 2, BURROUGHS 0: At Ridgecrest, Kyle Medeiros scattered three hits and threw six shutout relief innings as the Hawks knocked off the Burros in a Desert Sky League game.

Silverado (5-5 DSL) turned two double plays behind Medeiros who struck out two and walked none.

The Hawks travel to Granite Hills on Wednesday and then host the Cougars for their final regular season game.

HESPERIA CHRISTIAN 18, BETHEL CHRISTIAN/LANCASTER 2: At Hesperia, the Patriots scored eight runs in the first to win by mercy rule.

Eric O’Brien struck out nine batters while walking just one and giving up four hits to pick up his first win of the season. Zach Metz went 2-for-2.

The Patriots (6-9, 4-5 AL) play at Antelope Valley on Monday.

VICTOR VALLEY CHRISTIAN 4, APPLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 1: At Apple Valley, Royals starter Aaron Hewus struck out eight batters to lift Victor Valley Christian over the Warriors to remain undefeated in Agape League play.

Hewus also went 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring two runs. Scott Bowerman finished 2-for-3 for the Royals.

Apple Valley Christian’s Bryce Ely went 2-for-2, and Tyler Mason was 1-for-3.

Victor Valley Christian (14-4, 9-0 AL) hosts a doubleheader against Bethel Christian/Lancaster today, while Apple Valley Christian (6-8, 6-3 AL) hosts Joshua Springs on Tuesday.

APPLE VALLEY 13, RIM OF THE WORLD 6: At Lake Arrowhead, the Sun Devils earned their first win in the Mojave River League, sparked by Warren Morelion’s complete game.

Michael McAllister had a home run and drove in three runs, while Kyle Covarrubio hit his fifth homer in league play.

Apple Valley (4-12, 1-7 MRL) hosts Sultana on Tuesday.
