Victorville's Raymond wins NFL Play 60 Contest
Victorville’s Evan Raymond was recently selected as one of 33 NFL Play 60 Super Bowl Contest First Prize winners.
The grand prize winner, Hunter Paulin of Washington, D.C., will hand the game ball to the referee before kickoff at Super Bowl XLVII. A winner was selected for each NFL market plus two non-market winners. Evan won as a non-market winner.
He won a prize pack that includes two tickets to an NFL game of his choice. Evan, 11, also earned the opportunity to write for www.NFLrush.com. He’s already written several entries for the site and will continue to do so next season.
Evan was notified he’d won in early December.
“I felt just amazed,” Evan said. “I was absolutely stunned.”
The contest required each child to answer three questions: Which NFL player inspires you to be fit and why? How do you and your family stay active and healthy? How does eating right help power your play?
“I got on (the website for the contest) and I just wrote what I felt like writing,” Evan said. “I just felt confident, and I wrote what I wrote.”
His mom, Juliet Raymond, said Evan is an active child who enjoys football, baseball and playing guitar and is a good student in the classroom.
Evan said quarterback Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, his favorite team, inspired him to be fit.
“He inspires me to work hard and do my best,” Evan wrote for the contest. “I think if I grew up to be the fantastic Evan Raymond, you’ll know why.”
Evan said his family was inspired to stay healthy after his father Gary entered a Biggest Loser contest at work and took third place, winning the family an Xbox 360.
As for eating right, Evan already has that under control.
“Eating right helps you be better at sports by getting healthy so you get faster and stronger and more energy. Also you can get taller and have more actuate throws and farther throws,” Evan wrote.
“Things like corn, broccoli and green beans help power you up. If you eat junk every day you would have no healthy value whatsoever. If that happened you would be fat. The people that do it are buying too much junk food.”
For the game Sunday, Evan picked the Baltimore Ravens to win the Super Bowl 28-24.
“I don’t want to vote for the team that beat the Packers,” Evan said.
