All-CIF hoops teams released

Several local prep basketball players were named to their respective divisions’ All-CIF-Southern Section/SCIBCA teams, which were released on Monday.

Serrano senior Jamaal Franklin was named to the Division II-AA first team, while Apple Valley senior Absalom Smith and Barstow senior Earl Jefferson were both selected to the All-CIF-SS Division III-A boys first team.

Following a run to the CIF-Southern Section Division VI-AA semifinals, the Hesperia Christian boys seniors Jordan Vargas and Seth Thomas were named to the first team, while senior Jacob Arreola made the second.

Hesperia Christian girls coach Sally Orlando was named the Division VI-AA coach of the year. The Patriots’ girls team also had three players named to the Division VI-AA teams after advancing to the section finals. Seniors Katie McGrath and Lauren Miller each received first-team honors, while junior Sierra Rick made the second team.

Barstow junior Nisha Barrett was named to the girls Division III-A first team after leading the Aztecs to the quarterfinals.
