JC Baseball: Vikings win Taft tourney

TAFT • The Barstow College baseball team won a pair of games Sunday to finish first at the Taft Tournament.

Barstow beat host Taft College 3-1 in the championship game thanks to a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning by Sultana’s Marcos Sanchez. Apple Valley’s Manny Rodriguez picked up his first college win with one shutout inning of relief.

Barstow beat College of the Siskiyous 6-5 earlier in the day. Gabby Soto was 3-for-5 in that game, and Michael McNicholl and Kris Soto each went 2-for-4. McNicholl had a double and Kris Soto earned the save in both games.

The Vikings plays at Compton College on Wednesday.
