Track and Field Roundup: 4-18-09
ROBINSON WINS 1,600: At Murrieta, Sultana’s Shayna Robinson won the invitational 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 16.22 seconds at the Inland Empire Championship.
In the open meet, Auzsane Carter won the 800 in 2:23.51 in just her second time running the event this year. Cassie Bird took sixth in the same event in 2:28.26.
LaTaneisha Wilkes finished second in the open 400 (1:02.20), followed by Tesla McOrand in fourth (1:04.60).
Stephanie Prescott was fifth in the open 100 hurdles (18.04), and the 4x400 relay team (Wilkes, Emily Harrison, Bird, Carter) took second in 4:12.07.
Jade Pugh was fourth in the discus (108 feet, 9 inches), while Chelsey Jones took fourth in the triple jump (31-10), followed by Stephanie Hearn in sixth (31-2).
THREE SERRANO RECORDS FALL: At Murrieta, three Diamondbacks set school records at the Inland Empire Championship held at Vista Murrieta.
Jamaal Franklin broke the Serrano record in the invitational long jump by reaching 21 feet, two inches for second. He also finished third in the invitational high jump (6-5).
Robert Brockert set a record in the invitational 800 meters (1:58.58) and placed sixth, and Jessica Feuerstine broke Serrano’s 300 hurdles record (46.51) to finish seventh in the invitational race.
The girls 4x400 relay team — consisting of Feuerstine, Christa Bowers, Lauren Minnick and Danie Foxvog — took fifth (4:07.33) in the invitational race. Bowers took fifth place (26.56) in the open 200.
