Scouting combine set for Saturday
A football scouting combine for local high school freshman, sophomores and juniors is set for noon Saturday at Apple Valley’s Newton T. Bass Stadium as part of the Second Annual High Desert All-Star Football Game.
The combine, run by EXP Performance Training, gives players a chance to run a variety of drills, including the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, three-cone drill, bench press (185 pounds) and one-on-one drills for wide receivers, defensive backs and linemen.
Bryson Gardner of EXP said the goal of the combine is to gauge the physical skills of local players and make the information available to college recruiters while also educating the players on the recruiting process.
Last year, approximately 160 players took part in the combine.
The total cost is $15 and includes entry into the combine, a ticket to the all-star game and a commemorative T-shirt provided by the Knights of Columbus.
Combine participants must by a pre-sale ticket for the $5 student price and pay a $10 fee at the combine. Tickets are available at participating high schools as well as some local businesses. Tickets will also be available for the pre-sale price from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the stadium box office.
