Softball Roundup 5-26-09: Scorps win big, reach quarters
REDLANDS • Kelsey Byrd shut out Arrowhead Christian Academy over the final six innings, and Toni Shurtliff sparked Hesperia’s offense in a 12-3 win in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division IV playoffs.
Shurtliff went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for Hesperia (17-6). Alexis Moctezuma was 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Byrd went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Sloppy defense cost the Scorpions in the first inning as two errors led to three unearned runs. But Byrd recovered and gave up just two hits and no runs over the final six innings.
