Area Roundup 2-25-13: Silver Knights start season with no-hitter

YERMO • Kyle Moore and Alex Ruiz combined on a five-inning no-hitter in Riverside Prep’s season-opening 10-0 win over Silver Valley on Monday afternoon.

Moore started and threw four innings, striking out nine. Ruiz struck out two in the final inning. The game was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.

Ruiz and Nando Ruiz had two hits, including a double, each.

The Silver Knights (1-0) play at Nuview Bridge today.

OAK HILLS 10, GRANITE HILLS 0: At Apple Valley, the Bulldogs blanked the Cougars in a Redlands Baseball Invitational game.

Oak Hills’ Peter Saldana went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Nick Muckenthaler was 1-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs.

Tommy Anderson and Adrian Gonzales combined to throw seven shutout innings.

The Bulldogs (2-0) continue tournament play at host Redlands East Valley on Wednesday.

VICTOR VALLEY 9, VALLEY VIEW 7: At Victorville, the Jackrabbits picked up their first win of the season in a Redlands Baseball Invitational game.

Victor Valley’s Jake Padilla had two runs and two RBIs; Alex Mora had a walk, two runs and a stolen base; Kaleyl Anderson had a double an RBI and a run; and Zack Gardner added two runs, a walk and a stolen base.

The Jackrabbits (1-1) lost their season opener Saturday 3-1 against La Sierra. Andy Pascual had a double, a triple and an RBI, and Reggie Lawson was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Victor Valley continues tournament play at Ontario Christian on Wednesday.

WALNUT 234, OAK HILLS 254: At City of Industry, the Bulldogs began their season with a loss in a nine-hole match at Industry Hills Golf Club.

Samuel Mangiaterra led Oak Hills with a 41 and Naiche Pena shot a 47.

The Bulldogs play in the first Mojave River League match of the season Thursday at Hesperia Country Club.

UNIVERSITY PREP 10, GRANITE HILLS 1: At Apple Valley, freshman Anissa Lopez dominated in her debut, helping the Jaguars beat the Cougars.

Lopez struck out nine and walked three in a complete game. The only hit she allowed was a bunt single. She also went 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate. Domonique Stewart was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Justice Borden went 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBIs and a run.

RIVERSIDE PREP 22, SILVER VALLEY 16: At Yermo, the Silver Knights outscored the Trojans in a six-inning game to begin the season with a win.

Riverside Prep’s Emmy Rodriguez, Olivia McGinnis and Destiny Fernandez all went 3-for-4. Rodriguez had two triples, McGinnis had a double and a triple, and Fernandez added two doubles.

Silver Knights starter Alexis Lopez struck out eight in a complete game.
