Area Roundup 2-19-13: D'backs shut out Trailblazers

Serrano girls soccer team to host Quartz Hill in quarters

WOODLAND HILLS • The Serrano girls soccer team scored early and held on from there in a 1-0 CIF-Southern Section Division 4 playoff victory against Sierra Canyon on Tuesday evening.

The Diamondbacks’ Paige Smith scored on a goal assisted by Saida Aparicio in the 12th minute of the game.

Serrano survived a torrential downpour to start the second half and plenty of chances by the Trailblazers, Serrano co-coach Dave Molina said. Janelle Flores made nine saves in net for the D’backs.

“They had some good shots,” Molina said. “They are a very good team. They are fast. Janelle made a couple of outstanding saves.”

Serrano (23-3-3) will host Quartz Hill on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
