Prep Basketball: Silver Knights sweep CVL awards

Riverside Prep dominated the Cross Valley postseason awards in boys and girls basketball after both squads won the league title.

Riverside Prep’s Ashim Skeete earned the MVP award and his coach Daniel Rincon took home Coach of the Year honors for boys basketball.

Skeete’s Riverside Prep teammates Chris Bailey and Elijah Woods made the first team. Also included on the first team were Academy of Careers and Exploration’s Josh Calhoun, Antelope Valley Christian’s Shio Xing, Bethel Christian’s Austin Dragoo; and University Prep’s Vaughn Williams.

The second team included: Academy of Careers and Exploration’s Chris Perry; AVC’s Kazu Onishi; Riverside Prep’s Mike Ortega; and University Prep’s Jaalen Thompson, Austin Ledington and Anthony Pena. Bethel Christian’s Daniel Goode earned an honorable mention.

Bethel Christian won the league’s sportsmanship award.

For the girls, Riverside Prep’s Tianni Hill won the MVP award and Gunder Andreasen, who was coaching his first season with the Silver Knights, won Coach of the Year.

The first team included: Academy of Careers and Exploration’s Morgan Allen; Riverside Prep’s Destiny Fernandez and Dez Quintinar; and University Prep’s Renee D’Espyne, Marissa Carbajal and Danielle Fisher.

The second team included: Academy of Careers and Exploration’s Kristin Williams and Alyssa Wall; AVC’s Glendy Ibarra; Bethel Christian’s Kylee Thompson; Riverside Prep’s Tina Keys; and University Prep’s Stacia Porter.

Bethel Christian’s Jazmin Calyter and AVC’s Fanni Medveczky were honorable mentions. Academy of Careers and Exploration won the sportsmanship award.
