Prentice takes top MRL honor

Rim of the World senior pitcher Erica Prentice finished off her prep career with another strong season, and she was rewarded with Mojave River League Player of the Year honors.

Prentice helped the Scots defend their league title from a year ago, while second-place Hesperia led the league with four first-team selections as the All-MRL team was released this past weekend.

Prentice, a four-year starter, went 13-4 in the circle with a 0.99 ERA. She finished with a .460 batting average, three home runs, 14 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

Hesperia’s Raeven Ball, Kelsey Byrd, Jamie Roland and Toni Shurtliff were named to the first team.

Sultana had three honorees: Lauren Larabell, Emily McCormick and Patti Masner.

Serrano and Apple Valley had two players each: Kristen Payne and Sequoia Barrett from Apple Valley along with Shelby Hoffman and Jessica Jett from Serrano. Rim of the World’s Elizabeth Caporuscio rounded out the first team.

Nine others made the MRL second team: Apple Valley’s Brigette Penabler; Sam Beltran and Alexis Moctezuma from Hesperia; Sarah Tribe and Taylor Tribe from Rim of the World; Serrano’s Jordyn Bledsoe, Cheyanna Kawal and Brook Jett; and Vanessa Coleman from Sultana.
