Gaines decides to leave Penn

Former Serrano basketball player Harrison Gaines has decided to leave the University of Pennsylvania in search of “a team where he can fully utilize his skill set,” according to a press release sent to the Daily Press on Wednesday.

“It wasn’t a good fit,” the 19-year-old sophomore guard said in the release e-mailed by his father, Harry Gaines.  “I’m grateful for the opportunity at Penn. However, I believe my long-term satisfaction lies in joining another university team.”

Gaines was the Quakers’ second leading scorer this past season with 10 points per game. He has filed for a transfer but doesn’t yet know where he will play next season.

“I didn’t expect to leave Penn before earning my bachelor’s degree,” Gaines added. “But at the end of the day, I realized I need to attend a school where I have confidence in the basketball team’s leaders.”
