Pollard, Mora pick up top DSL honors
The Victor Valley baseball team won its sixth Desert Sky League title in eight seasons, and it was well represented when the all-league team was released.
Senior pitcher/outfielder Alex Pollard was named the DSL Player of the Year, Mark Mora earned the Coach of the Year and three others were named to the league’s first team.
Pollard had an 8-5 record with a 2.82 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 72 innings pitched. He also finished the year with a .329 batting average with three home runs, 21 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
Senior Darrin Duncan, and juniors Mark Lopez and Justin Lopez were named to the first team from Victor Valley.
Barstow and Granite Hills also had three representative apiece: senior Jaccob Muir, and juniors Thomas McCarthy and Aaron Sanchez from the Aztecs; and seniors Andrew Disbrow and C.J. King, and junior Cody Lavalli from the Cougars.
Silverado junior Dusty Seidenkranz was also selected along with Burroughs senior Kyle Hirsch and junior Javier Ledford.
The DSL honorable mentions included: Barstow senior Matthew Negrette; Burroughs juniors Xavier Ledford and George Eckert and sophomore Nick Meyers; Granite Hills senior David Wetzel; Silverado senior Daniel Lopez; and Victor Valley senior Luke Mejia and sophomore Daniel Burgum.
