Seniors set for all-star hoops game
The 15th Annual High Desert All-Star Basketball Game will be held Saturday night at Silverado High School’s gymnasium.
The event features a girls game at 6 p.m., followed by a slam dunk contest for the boys, then a 3-point shooting contest for the boys and girls followed by the boys game and an awards ceremony. Admission is $5.
The area’s top seniors will be split into East and West teams, which means some Mojave River League and Desert Sky League players will be teammates.
“It’s all about fun,” said Silverado coach Pat Brannon, who’s helping his school host the game for the 10th straight year. “We want it to be fun for the kids, that’s why we don’t do the MRL-DSL thing. We want it to be fun for the parents and fans, too.”
There will be plenty of talent on the floor. The East boys team features standouts such as Apple Valley’s Absalom Smith, Granite Hills’ Kevin Flagg and Hesperia Christian’s Jordan Vargas. The West boys include Serrano’s Jamaal Franklin, Silverado’s Kintin Scott and Barstow’s Earl Jefferson.
Hesperia Christian’s Katie McGrath and Sultana’s Marissa Cintron are among those suiting up for the East girls, while the West features Silverado’s Marreon Belt and Clarnisha Williams along with Barstow’s Alyssa Maldonado.
