2009 Boys Tennis All-Area Team

ATHLETE OF THE YEAR FINALIST
JOAQUIN ENCISO, JR., SILVERADO
The hard-working Enciso finished with a 16-6 record in the Desert Sky League as the Hawks No. 1 singles player and also swept in Silverado’s playoff match against Hemet. This is his second-straight all-area nod.

ATHLETE OF THE YEAR FINALIST
SAGAR PATEL, SR., HESPERIA
Patel (33-6, 19-4 Mojave River League) made the All-MRL team for the third time after another solid season as the Scorpions’ No. 1 singles player. He also teamed with Rudy Fuentes to win the Cops ’N’ Jocks Scorpion Invitational and take third in doubles at the MRL finals.

ATHLETE OF THE YEAR FINALIST
DEVIN PHAGUDA, JR., GRANITE HILLS
Finished with a 15-5 league record and was 30-8 overall, playing mostly from the No. 1 singles spot for the Desert Sky League champions. Phaguda was the only Cougar to sweep in the team’s first-round playoff loss.

ATHLETE OF THE YEAR FINALIST
TIAGO SERAPIAO, SR., BARSTOW
Serapiao, a foreign exchange student from Brazil, dominated en route to winning a Desert Sky League singles title. He went 23-1 in league and took second at the Cops ’N’ Jocks Scorpion Invitational.

KEITH CAMERON, SR., SULTANA
Cruised through league action, going 24-0 with doubles partner John Labrada in leading the Sultans to second place in the Mojave River League. Cameron and Labrada were runner-ups at league finals and finished 32-2.

RUDY FUENTES, SR., HESPERIA
Fuentes (39-7 overall, 20-4 Mojave River League) regularly played at Hesperia’s No. 2 singles spot, but he teamed up with Sagar Patel to win the Scorpion Invitational doubles title and place third at the MRL finals. He earned all-MRL honors for the second time.

JOHN LABRADA, SR., SULTANA
Paired with teammate Keith Cameron to form one of the most dominant doubles teams in the High Desert. They went 24-0 in the Mojave River League, took second at the league championships and finished with a 32-2 record.

AARON LONG, JR., SERRANO

Long, also a standout soccer player, went 29-1 when paired with Seth Tate at No. 1 doubles for the D’backs. He had a 31-2 record with both of the losses coming against Sultana’s No. 1 doubles team.

ANTHONY SERRANO, SO., SERRANO
Serrano (33-13 overall, 18-6 Mojave River League) represented the Diamondbacks at the No. 2 singles position and helped them win an MRL title. After having never played doubles before, he paired with Seth Tate to win an MRL doubles title.

SETH TATE, JR., SERRANO
Had success with whichever doubles partner he played with and swept as a singles player against Sultana to help clinch a league title for the D’backs. Tate (47-3) paired with Anthony Serrano to win a Mojave River League doubles championship.

COACH OF THE YEAR
JIM PATTON, SERRANO
Patton led the Diamondbacks to a league title in a very tight Mojave River League. Serrano finished the season 13-2 overall and 7-1 in the MRL.
