Campbell steps down

Andy Campbell has a thing for valleys, precious metals and reclamation projects.

Silver Valley High School’s most successful football coach is moving on. Campbell is leaving Yermo for Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita after three seasons with the Trojans. Campbell was officially hired as football coach by the Grizzlies last week and will succeed Steve Pinkson, who was the Golden Valley coach for two seasons. Campbell is the Grizzlies third coach in five seasons as a varsity program.

“Leaving is never something that you look forward to, for me especially,” Campbell said. “It’s never a positive thing for me to always think about leaving. But with that said, I’m always excited about starting fresh and starting new. Golden Valley gives me a great opportunity to step my game up a little bit and to challenge myself.”

Chris Printz, Golden Valley athletic director, couldn’t be reached for comment but told The Signal that Campbell was the most impressive candidate through two rounds of interviews. Golden Valley has an enrollment of about 2,500 and competes in the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division.
