Sultana's Bollinger to wrestle for Marion Military
Former Sultana wrestler Cody Bollinger recently signed a letter of intent to attend Marion Military Institute in Marion, Ala., next school year.
Marion Military competes in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association and also goes against NCAA and NAIA teams in regular season tournaments.
Bollinger, who was the 2009 Daily Press wrestling Athlete of the Year, chose the military junior college over Cal State Fullerton, Adams State and Cal Baptst University, among others.
Bollinger was a four-year varsity wrestler at Sultana who won CIF-Southern Section Masters titles his junior and senior years and then placed third at state his season year. Following the season, Bollinger won a state freestyle title and finished second at the Greco-Roman state championships.
Frankie Bollinger, Cody’s father, said he and his son liked the fact that both coaches at MMI are former Olympic medalists and devout Christians.
MMI is one of five military junior colleges in the country and offers the Service Academy Preparation Program, in which students can transfer to one of the service academies after their freshman year if their performance is outstanding. If Bollinger stays through two years, he can earn a commission as a second lieutenant.
