Area Roundup 2-8-13: Boston clinches Barstow's win

BARSTOW • Cody Boston stole a Granite Hills inbounds pass and dunked it with time about to expire to give Barstow a 61-57 win in the regular-season finale Friday night at the Don Bilsborough Gymnasium.

Boston finished the game with 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Anthony Addison added 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals, and George Morales grabbed six rebounds.

Granite Hills had a 44-41 lead entering the fourth quarter.

The Cougars’ Basleal Ayinalem led all scorers with 23 points. Teammate Chandler Redix had 19 points and five assists, and Deangelo Ashley had 24 rebounds and four blocks.

Despite finishing in fourth place in the Desert Sky League, Barstow coach Prestonn Biggs said he thinks the Aztecs (8-16, 3-9 DSL) can earn a playoff spot when brackets are released at 1 p.m. Sunday at cifss.org.

Granite Hills finished the season with an 8-17 overall record and 2-10 in the DSL.

Isaac Pieper had 16 points, Tim Thymes added 15 and Michael Coulter had 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals for AAE (15-6, 8-2 Agape League).

Mark Medina scored a game-high 23 points and also had eight rebounds and four assists for AVCS (6-13, 2-8 AL).

ACADEMY FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE 47, APPLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 24: At Apple Valley, the Knights (17-5, 10-0 Agape League) closed out the season with a perfect league record.

“We’re ready,” said AAE coach Ashley Simpson of the playoffs, “We’ve continued to play a good game of basketball, 32 minutes all the way through.”

For AAE, Melissa Owuor had 10 points, six rebounds, three blocks and four steals, and Haley Sutton had six steals and four assists.

Carolina Carrazedo scored a game-high 14 for Apple Valley Christian.
