Webb shines at combine

Barstow’s Curtis Webb had a big day at the EXP Performance Training High Desert Combine last Saturday, helping Barstow tie Serrano for the best performance as a team.

The event tested local freshmen, sophomores and juniors in four football drills, including the bench press at 185 pounds, the 40-yard dash, the 20-yard shuttle and the three-cone drill.

Webb, a junior running back and defensive back, was in the top five in three out of four drills. The Aztecs matched Serrano with five top-five finishes.

The Diamondbacks had five different athletes post top-five performances, including sophomore Gerardo Aguirre, whose 27 reps were the best in the bench press.

The top 40-yard dash time belonged to Hesperia junior defensive back Femi Oladapo at 4.53 seconds.

Granite Hills sophomore Matt Brucker was the best in the 20-yard shuttle (4.19 seconds) and the three-cone drill (6.75 seconds).

This was the second edition of the combine, and this year it featured one-on-one drills. EXP’s Bryson Gardner said in a press release that the Hesperia offensive linemen and the Victor Valley skill position players were the one-on-one standouts.
