Track and Field Roundup: 4-23-09

AZTECS, ’RABBITS SPLIT MEET: At Barstow, the Victor Valley girls won easily, while the Barstow boys were victorious in a Desert Sky League meet.

Nicole Chambers won two jumping events and Treasurie Hatten took the 100 meters and ran on the winning 4x400 relay team for the Victor Valley girls (4-2, 1-2 DSL).

Andrew Romano took home titles in the 800 and 1,600 to lead the Barstow boys. For Victor Valley (0-6, 0-3 DSL), DiVance Walker remained undefeated in the 110 meter hurdles and Mariano Perez broke 11 seconds in the 100.

Victor Valley goes to Burroughs on April 30, and Barstow goes to Granite Hills.

SERRANO SWEEPS: At Ridgecrest, the Diamondbacks boys and girls teams both beat the Burros in a nonleague meet.

For the Serrano girls (5-0), Jessica Feuerstine won two events and a relay; Natasha Coe took a pair of individual races; Christa Bowers won an individual race and participated on both winning relays; Lauren Minnick won one individual event and a relay; and Danie Foxvog participated on both relays.

For the Diamonbacks boys, Alex Ramirez won both throwing competitions, while John Rangel (11:06) set a new school record in the 100 meters and finished second.

For Burroughs, Kayla Kovar won both girls throwing events, and Karl Moran and Eddie Thomas each won two races on the boys side.

Serrano travels to Sultana on Wednesday for its final Mojave River League dual meet of the season which will decide the league champion.
