Area Roundup 2-6-13: Alozie sets Granite Hills school record

APPLE VALLEY • Michelle Alozie scored seven goals to break the school record for most goals in a game as Granite Hills blasted Barstow 14-0 in the final game of the regular season.

Alozie broke the previous record of six goals held by Kristine Pasek, and has 40 goals this year. The win was also the 60th straight Desert Sky League victory for the Cougars.

Alozie also dished out an assist. Katie Saavedra had four goals and four assist, Lindsay Hutton had two goals and an assist, Ashlenn Bradbury had a goal and three assists, B.K. Smith had two assists, and Emma Healey, Kassidy Vogel and Brooklyn Barricman each had an assist as well.

Granite Hills (15-5-3, 12-0 DSL) will find out its playoff seeding on Monday.

Prep Boys Basketball
• SILVERADO 72, BARSTOW 50: At Barstow, the Hawks sewed up the outright Desert Sky League title as well as their third straight 20-win season.

Daveone Ambers had 19 points, 21 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and three steals to help Silverado win its 27th straight league game. Kristian Keys had 15 points, Gerardo Muro added 13 points and six rebounds and D.J. Sylvester had nine points and six rebounds.

Silverado (20-5, 11-0 DSL) wraps up the regular season tonight at home against Victor Valley.

• VICTOR VALLEY 60, BURROUGHS 54: At Victorville, the Jackrabbits rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to pick up a Desert Sky League win.

VVHS outscored the Burros 45-25 in the second half and took its first lead of the game with 31⁄2 minutes to play.

Malik Cotton led the ’Rabbits with 15 points and Davondre Jackson had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Victor Valley (13-8, 9-2 DSL) closes out its season at Silverado today. Burroughs (8-14, 4-8 DSL) is finished with its regular season.

Prep Girls Basketball
• SILVERADO 78, BARSTOW 23: At Victorville, Hawks seniors Ebony Black-Smith, Makalia Nash and Asia Leonard all had big nights on senior night.

Black-Smith led the way with 20 points, three assists, six rebounds, seven steals and two blocks; Nash had 10 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks; and Leonard added four points, four assists, two rebounds and one steal.

Sophomore Anita Romero added 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Silverado (16-8, 11-0 DSL) faces Victor Valley on the road today.

• APPLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 50, LUCERNE VALLEY 22: At Lucerne Valley, Carolina Carrazedo scored 14 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the Warriors’ road win Tuesday.

Lana Gomes had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Christina Seaton just missed a triple double with 15 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists.

Apple Valley Christian (4-5 Agape League) hosts Academy for Academic Excellence on Friday.

Prep Boys Soccer
• OAK HILLS 5, SERRANO 1: At Phelan, Sage Smith and Anthony Alvarez each had a goal and an assist as the Bulldogs clinched their fourth straight 20-win season.

Mario Barbosa, Christian Briseno and Isaac Martinez scored a goal each. Abel Arriola had two assisst and Louis Trejo had one assist.

Chase Gentry made three saves and Brad Kauffer had one in net.

Oak Hills (20-2-2, 11-0 MRL) closes out the regular season today against Sultana.

Prep Boys Soccer
• GRANITE HILLS 3, BARSTOW 1: At Barstow, freshman David Vallejo scored twice to lead the Cougars to a victory.

Danny Carvajal also scored and Ryan Pinkerton dished out the assist on all three goals.

Granite Hills (16-5-2, 8-3-1 Desert Sky League) is done with the regular season and will have the DSL’s second playoff seed.

Prep Wrestling
• MUSTANGS ADVANCE 10: At Lucerne Valley, 10 Lucerne Valley wrestlers advanced at the High Desert League Finals.

Colby Hambrick (106 pounds), Sara Sullivan (113), Alberto Barbosa (120), Ian Roberts (126), James Gonzalez (132), Ian Rosse (138), John Sullivan (145), Will Marx  (152), Tyler Beans (160) and Brett Swenson (170) all advanced.

Sullivan, Rosse and Barbosa all won league titles.

The Mustangs will head to the CIF-Southern Section Southern Division Individual Championships on Feb. 15 and 16 at Santiago Canyon College in Orange.

JC Golf
• RAMS FINISH 13TH: At Chino Hills, Victor Valley College finished 13th out of 15 teams at the Kickoff Invitational at Los Serranos golf course.

Bobby Sole shot a 159 over the two-day event to lead the Rams and Lolita Moore shot a 169.

VVC will next host the Pnoomonia Open at Spring Valley Lake on Monday.

JC Women’s Basketball
• VICTOR VALLEY COLLEGE 77, RIO HONDO COLLEGE 52: At Victorville, Claudia Meneses earned another double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Rams.

Mary Galindo scored 13 points and had five assists, Patrice Marshall added 14 points and five assists and Lisa Pele grabbed nine rebounds.

VVC (9-12, 4-5 Foothill Conference) travels to play San Bernardino Valley College on Saturday.
