Cougars hang on for a win

APPLE VALLEY • The Granite Hills softball team held off a late rally to beat Alhambra 7-6 in the wild-card round of the CIF-Southern Section Division V playoffs on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cougars (14-11) led 5-0 and 7-2 before giving up two runs in the fifth and sixth innings. But starter Tiffany Vance worked a scoreless ninth to pick up the complete-game victory. She struck out six.

Madie Simpson went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs for Granite Hills. Lindsay Sandum was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Megan Bessette went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.

The Cougars play a first-round game at Riverside Christian on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

Hesperia needs to be cleaned up. There is to much trash and unkept land. Please do something about it. It is getting worst every year.
