Baseball Roundup: 5-11-09

APPLE VALLEY 7, HESPERIA 1: At Apple Valley, pitcher Kyle Covarrubio scattered four hits and helped his cause with a two-run homer as the Sun Devils won their final home game and ended the Scorpions’ Mojave River League title hopes.

Hesperia (6-5 MRL) trailed Sultana by a game in the league standings heading in, but a loss to Apple Valley (7-13, 4-7 MRL) and a Sultana win clinched the league title for the Sultans.

“I’m just happy for us to get a win at home,” Apple Valley coach Sean Sers said. “The last home game for our 10 seniors, and they’ve struggled for four years. It was a good win for them to end it out.”
