Name released in VVC suicide

VICTORVILLE • The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department has identified the 18-year-old Victor Valley College student who committed suicide Wednesday as Garrett Leonardo Alarid.

Alarid died on VVC campus at approximately 10:20 a.m. Wednesday from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, according to previous reports.

Following the tragedy, VVC has provided counseling and is planning to offer discussions and workshops in the future.

Even before knowing the name of the victim, many expressed their condolences for Alarid’s family and friends online.

Commenting on VVDailyPress.com, Alarid’s friend Carlo Gonzalez said, “For those of you at VVC, a few of us students have created a memorial for our friend Garrett who committed suicide... (If) you could please help us make sure it stays safe, it would make us very happy.”
