Victorville man arrested for abusing 2-year-old
VICTORVILLE • Authorities arrested a Victorville man on suspicion of physically abusing a 2-year-old boy, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff's release.
Cesar Omar Melgar, 28, was arrested Saturday in the 16700 block of Chalon Road on suspicion of willful cruelty to a child, officials said. Melgar is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Personnel from the Sheriff’s Victorville station responded to Desert Valley Hospital Friday regarding a toddler who had been taken to the hospital by his mother for abdominal pain, according to authorities.
The boy was airlifted to the Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. Authorities suspect physical abuse caused bruising on his body and internal bleeding, according to the release.
Sheriff’s officials confirmed that Melgar is the victim’s second cousin, who was living in the same home as the child.
After further investigation by the Crimes Against Children Detail, authorities arrested Melgar and booked him at the Central Detention Center. He was also booked for two outstanding traffic warrants, one from San Bernardino County and another from Kern County.
