Victorville man killed in crash

Deceased man's passenger flees scene

VICTORVILLE • A 30-year-old Victorville man was killed early Monday morning after his vehicle was struck by a motorist who allegedly ran a red light, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Victorville station officials said.

At about 1 a.m., authorities received several 911 calls of a collision on Bear Valley Road near Industrial Road, according to Karen Hunt, spokeswoman for the Victorville station.

When rescuers arrived at the location, they found the man who had been driving a 1993 Buick south on Industrial Road had died of his injuries and witnesses reported a male passenger in the Buick fled the scene before authorities arrived. A 22-year-old Lucerne Valley man behind the wheel of a 2003 Saturn station wagon that struck the Buick was injured and was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, according to a release.

Members of the Victorville Major Accident Investigation Team concluded that the driver of the Saturn reportedly failed to stop at the light at the intersection of Bear Valley and Industrial roads, leading to the deadly crash, Hunt said.

It’s unclear why the deceased driver’s passenger fled the scene, Hunt stated. Authorities have not determined if alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.

This is still an ongoing investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Victorville station at (760) 241-2911 or call WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME.

Love and Respect to the man who made me laugh when it was time to cry. Could see the good in a bad situation, and had a heart as big as Texas. I loved your life and will miss you. God Bless.
