Victorville man, 82, gets 6 months in jail for attacking wife
VICTORVILLE • An 82-year-old man accused of kicking his wife in the ribs and using an electrical cord to strangle her was sentenced Friday to six months in county jail.
George Junior Walker of Victorville accepted the prosecution’s offer and pleaded guilty Monday to inflicting corporal injury on a spouse. Victorville Superior Court Judge Lynn Poncin sentenced him according to the plea agreement.
Although his medical conditions weren’t clear, the defendant appeared in court Friday in a wheelchair, Deputy District Attorney David Foy said. The prosecutor said Walker was the oldest domestic violence defendant he’s ever had.
On Jan. 9, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials received a call from a concerned resident who spotted Walker walking along Nisqualli Road and asked him if he needed any help. Walker said he was on his way to a Walmart and had just had an argument with a family member, officials said.
Deputies caught up with Walker, while other investigators went to check his home and found the 62-year-old victim with serious injuries.
Foy said the victim has since recovered and was in court Friday.
“She didn’t deny this happened, but she wanted him released,” Foy said.
The judge issued a protective order against Walker, telling him not to strike, threaten or harass his wife. Walker has to attend a 52-week domestic violence course upon his release.
