Man arrested for drunk driving after head-on collision

APPLE VALLEY • A man was arrested for drunk driving after a head-on collision on Dale Evans Parkway, officials said Tuesday.

Just before 3:30 p.m. on Monday, a driver on Stoddard Wells Road turned into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle as he attempted to turn onto Dale Evans Parkway, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Apple Valley station spokesperson Teresa McMahon

At 3:36 p.m. personnel from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s and Fire departments responded to the scene. The driver of the vehicle that was struck suffered minor injuries. He was treated on scene and released.

The intersection of Dale Evans Parkway and Stoddard Wells Road was closed for 45 minutes following the collision, and the two vehicles were towed, McMahon said.

“The front end of a red station wagon was annihilated,” described Annie Lancaster, who could see the intersection from a residence on Dale Evans Parkway.

Deputies took the driver of the first vehicle to St. Mary’s Hospital to have his blood alcohol level tested, McMahon said.

The driver, who was later identified as Tommy Jay Dunnagan, 27, was arrested for two charges of drunk driving causing bodily injury and booked at the Victor Valley station with bail set at $100,000, according to booking records. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

The incident is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s department.
