Baseball pro throws thousands of dollars to local students

HESPERIA • Some 38 local students have been given a total of $152,000 in scholarships based solely upon their volunteer service through the Don Ferrarese Charitable Foundation.

Last year’s applicants represented more than 30,000 hours of volunteer service — which is what the charity’s namesake is all about.

After pitching professionally for 15 years, Don Ferrarese dedicated himself to community causes, raising more than $2 million for local civic organizations through community programs such as the Veterans Tribute, Santa’s Sleigh Toy Drive, Moses House Scholarships and public speaking. The mission of his foundation is to inspire locals youth to live in the spirit of Ferrarese, with a life of charity and compassion.
