School locked down against supsected gunman
YERMO • School officials placed a High Desert campus on lockdown for two hours Tuesday morning after receiving reports of an adult with a gun near the facility.
The California Highway Patrol responded to Yermo Elementary School when a student witnessed an adolescent or adult male with a BB gun near the school at 8:30 a.m., according to Superintendent Dr. Marc Jackson, with the Silver Valley Unified School District.
Mark Lacey, principal at the K-8 school on Gleason Street, reopened the 350-student campus after the CHP did an extensive search and deemed the school and area safe.
“We sent out a call to all of our parents to keep them informed of the situation,” Jackson said. “With all the recent events taking place in our country, we need to be on a heightened level of safety. We definitely take it very seriously.”
