Del Taco robbery suspect pleads guilty
Sentenced to 16 months in prison
BARSTOW • A former Del Taco employee who police implicated in the Nov. 28 robbery of First Street Del Taco pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime, court records showed Wednesday.
Joel Bautista, 31, was sentenced to 16 months in prison with 24 days credited for time served and good behavior on Tuesday.
On Nov. 29, Bautista was taken into custody by Barstow Police after they identified that he had provided key information about the business to a man and a juvenile leading up to the burglary.
On Nov. 28, two armed thieves robbed the First Street Del Taco, stealing cash, receipts and gift cards. After a short foot pursuit, Barstow Police arrested a 15-year-old that night and said they discovered evidence on the suspect including clothing matching the description given by witnesses, weapons and additional items used in the robbery.
The juvenile was booked at the High Desert Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center in Apple Valley.
The next morning, detectives identified Joel Salcedo, 18, as the other suspect in the robbery. At approximately 11:45 a.m., detectives began surveillance on a possible location of Salcedo. When he left the home, he was taken into custody without incident.
Salcedo has pleaded not guilty to robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime. He is due back in court on Jan. 15, according to court records.
