Student stabbed at Victor Valley High School

VICTORVILLE • A question about gang affiliation may have triggered a stabbing on Victor Valley High School's campus Tuesday afternoon, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Victorville station officials said.

The victim was flown to an undisclosed trauma center, Tracey Martinez, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Fire Department, said. No further details were available on the victim’s condition.

Both the victim and the suspect are juveniles and students at the high school, said Sgt. Kurt Lackman.

Authorities received several 911 calls at about 2:15 p.m. reporting a student had been stabbed with a shank on campus, officials said.

The victim confronted the suspect behind the gym about his gang affiliation based on the clothing the suspect was wearing, according to initial sheriff’s reports.

The two become involved in a physical fight and the victim, believed to be about 16, was stabbed with a sharpened piece of metal, Lackman stated.

Investigators were able to locate the weapon and detained the suspect, who is thought to also be about 16 years old.

After interviewing the attacker and several witnesses, the suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and was booked into the High Desert Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center.

The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Victorville station at (760) 241-2911 or call WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME.
