Department of Education honors Sixth Street Prep

VICTORVILLE • Sixth Street Prep children beamed with pride this week as the U.S. Department of Education awarded them with one of the nation’s top educational titles: No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School.

The Victorville elementary school near Old Town is one of 25 in California and 314 public and private schools across the nation in 2009 to secure the honor, which is awarded annually to schools that make dramatic gains in student achievement and help close gaps in achievement among minority and lowincome students.

Juliette Rizzo with the U.S. Department of Education flew to Victorville from Washington, D.C. to deliver a plaque on behalf of U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
