School shooting threat proven false

HESPERIA • Investigators acted quickly and disproved a rumor alleging a shooting was to take place at several local high school campuses on Monday, San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials said.

Sheriff’s officials first caught wind of the rumor on Sunday when someone called Sheriff’s Dispatch to report a campus shooting may take place the following day, according to a release.

There was an increased law enforcement presence at several school sites as a precautionary measure, as Hesperia School Police and Hesperia deputies investigated the claims, officials said.

Through the investigation, it was learned a student overheard a rumor that began at Sultana High School about a possible shooting, according to authorities. The student told some friends, who then told their parents, who finally reported it to law enforcement.

Officials concluded the rumors were not credible.

Authorities advise anyone who has any concerns over threats of violence to report it immediately.
