Man found dead off Lenwood Road identified

BARSTOW• The identity of a man found dead after an apparent suicide off Lenwood Road has been released.

Ellis Phillip Bishop, 65, of Claremont, was discovered unresponsive with trauma to the head by local law enforcement Wednesday afternoon, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Coroner Department.

At 12:05 p.m., California Highway Patrol received a call of a male lying next to a white pick up truck with a large amount of blood next to his body, just south of Old Highway 58.

The CHP notified the Sheriff’s department at 12:10 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy J. Angle confirmed. Bishop had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Angle said.

Bishop was pronounced dead at 12:15 p.m. by Barstow Fire District paramedics, according to the Sheriff’s Coroner.

Sheriff’s deputies waited at the scene for the Coroner to arrive.

The official cause of death is pending autopsy results.
