Assemblyman calm despite recall attempt

Assemblyman Anthony Adams, who is facing a possible recall election, said he is more relaxed about his fate than people might expect.

Speaking casually with a reporter following Wednesday’s Veterans Day ceremony at Hesperia Lake Park, Adams said he is not worried about the outcome of a recall movement. While he acknowledged the effort to get a recall on the ballot could succeed, he believes the recall campaign isn’t going as smoothly as the petitioners claim.

For one, Adams said of the Committee to Recall Adams petition drive, “There are lots of bad signatures.”

Adams also said he is ready for any of several potential scenarios. He said the recall drive could fail, and he would face a reelection campaign next June, or the recall could go to a June ballot and he would face possible reelection or recall on the very same day.

Adams, who was one of several featured speakers during Wednesday’s event, was approached by several attendees who wanted to lend their support and shake his hand following his speech.

Recall proponents submitted their final signatures on Oct. 13. They had nearly 60,000 signatures, which was almost two times the 36,000 required to grant a recall election, according to a FlashReport article. Congressmen Tom McClintock and Dana Rohrabacher were among the speakers who spoke at a pro-recall rally in early October, the article stated.

Adams, who lives with his wife in Hesperia when he’s not in Sacramento, was elected to the California State Assembly in November of 2006. Prior his election he was an executive analyst to former Supervisor Bill Postmus. Postmus, was elected county supervisor during the same election, resigned his position following allegations of corruption and an arrest for felony possession of methamphetamine.

A recall movement was started after Adams was one of six Republican legislators to approve the 2009 budget, which political conversatives said was too bloated and costly.
