Man gets probation for Pinon Hills marijuana operation
VICTORVILLE • A 20-year-old man was sentenced to three-years of probation after authorities discovered a complex hydroponic marijuana cultivation facility and more than 500 plants inside a Pinon Hills house.
Alejandro Quintero accepted the prosecution’s offer and pleaded no contest Thursday to cultivating marijuana and stealing utility services, according to court records. Victorville judge Lorenzo Balderrama sentenced him immediately to probation based on the plea agreement.
Quintero’s probation includes serving 50 days in county jail, court records show. He had already served 25 days of the jail term waiting for the case to get resolved.
On December 31, A San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy saw Quintero walk into the residence in the 9900 block of Ponderosa Road, which appeared to be vacant, according to sheriff’s officials.
The deputy smelled the odor of marijuana when he contacted Quintero at the front door, officials said. The entire 1,600-square-foot residence, including the two-car garage, was used for marijuana cultivation.
Investigators seized the extensive hydroponic cultivation system and the plants from the house. Quintero was stealing electricity using an electrical bypass, according to officials.
