Fire destroys Phelan mobile home

PHELAN • A fire completely destroyed an abandoned mobile home, according to a Wednesday news release from the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

There were no injuries, but the cause of the fire is suspicious in nature and is under investigation by the fire marshal’s office, the release stated.

County firefighters responded to a residential structure fire in the 10000 block of Valle Vista Road in Phelan at about 5:45 a.m., officials said. When they arrived, they saw an abandoned double-wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

Sixteen firefighters from Phelan, Wrightwood and Hesperia made an aggressive attack and prevented the fire from spreading onto nearby wildland vegetation, according to the release. They had the fire under control in 30 minutes.

No damage estimates were available.

The county fire department is asking local residents to report suspicious activity in or around abandoned and boarded-up structures by calling local law enforcement.
