Black History Month at BCC

College to host free lunch-time events

BARSTOW • In observance of February’s Black History Month, the Associated Student Body at Barstow Community College will present free lunch-time events on campus in conjunction with the history and humanities departments.

On Wednesday, current and former students will perform poems and songs at noon inside the Amphitheater. ASB and the Black Student Union will award prizes to participants who fill out a questionnaire with the correct knowledge of Black History events.

On Feb. 26, the Humanities department will present “At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality” at noon in room B-1. Faculty, staff and students will be reading from works by noted African American writers.

On Feb. 27, BCC instructors Ian Caldon and Ramon Vasconcellos will present a historical analysis of the Amistad incident in American history. Clips from the screen play “Amistad” will be shown at noon in room B-1 followed by a group discussion with the audience.

Each event is open to students, college staff and members of the community.
