Public meetings on Nisqualli interchange

VICTORVILLE • As the La Mesa/Nisqualli interchange moves toward a planned January groundbreaking, San Bernardino Associated Governments and the city of Victorville are holding meetings to share project information with the public.

Team members from both agencies will be on hand for the open house-style meetings to answer questions and offer opportunities for staying informed during the 18-month construction period.

There are two meetings scheduled in Victorville:

• From 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mojave Vista Elementary, 16100 Burwood Ave.; and

• From 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at Liberty Elementary, 12900 Amethyst Road.

The La Mesa/Nisqualli Interchange is expected to ease congestion by providing a new east/west crossover point for local traffic, as well as offer Interstate 15 access alternatives to Bear Valley and Palmdale roads.

SANBAG’s board of directors is expected to award the $31.8 million construction contract to the low bidder Riverside Construction during the agency’s Dec. 7 meeting. Work will then start by late January, according to SANBAG.

Teams are already at work relocating private utilities in the area in preparation for construction.
