HUSD board gives nod to McLaughlin
Appointed interim superintendent with 3-2 vote
HESPERIA • The Hesperia Unified School District Board of Trustees appointed David McLaughlin as the new interim superintendent at a special board meeting Tuesday night.
The vote was 3-2, with board member Cody Gregg, Ella “Lee” Rogers and Hardy Black voting in his favor.
“David has been with the district for 25 years,” said Rogers, the board president. “He is well attuned with all the inner working of the district and he has the financial aspects down pat.”
Rogers spoke highly of McLaughlin’s personality, saying he is a “calming person” who is also “respected a great deal.”
McLaughlin, who according to Rogers was born and raised in the High Desert, has served the district as the assistant superintendent of business services. He will temporarily fill the vacancy left by former superintendent Mark McKinney.
The need for a new superintendent came after the board voted 3-2 to remove McKinney without cause in December.
McKinney, who was moved to the role of vice principal at Hesperia High School, has a multi-year contract and will continue to collect the pay and benefits of his previous duties.
