Grand jury looking for volunteers
SAN BERNARDINO • The San Bernardino County Grand Jury is looking for volunteers to serve for 2013-14 and applications are now being accepted. Successful applicants will serve as grand jurors for the period beginning July 1 and ending June 30, 2014, according to a press release from the San Bernardino County Superior Court.
Eligible persons must be at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States and a resident of California and San Bernardino County for at least one year prior to appointment. The press release states that potential jurors must also possess sufficient knowledge of the English language, be in possession of their natural faculties, of ordinary intelligence, of sound judgment and of good character. Service as a grand juror involves an average of three to five full working days per week and compensation is $25 per day, plus meals and appropriate mileage.
The regular grand jury, which meets in San Bernardino, is charged by the California Penal Code to investigate all aspects of the county, city and special district government, and to hear information on certain criminal investigations.
Applications are available online at the grand jury’s website at www.sbcounty.gov/grandjury or by calling (909) 387-3820. Paper applications can be picked one up in person or requested in writing at the County Courthouse, 351 North Arrowhead Avenue, Room 200, San Bernardino, CA 92415. Applications will be accepted through Feb. 28.
