2 local snow resorts close, wait

Mountain High, Snow Summit shut down until conditions improve

A shot of snow mid-November had local ski resorts rushing to run lifts for riders ready to hit the slopes.

But after last weekend’s warm weather, Mountain High and Snow Summit decided to shut down this week until conditions are good enough to reopen.

With a storm on the horizon midweek, the Wrightwood resort is hoping to reopen by the weekend.

“We are working hard to reopen as soon as possible,” the resort’s website reads.

Last year, resorts suffered the worst snow drought in nearly 20 years, with ridership down and mountain businesses hurting from the lower number of skiers and snowboarders. Operators and enthusiasts are hoping this season will bring more snowfall than last year, but so far, it’s not looking good.

Bear Mountain in Big Bear and Mammoth Mountain up north both remain open.

Make sure to check the website at MtHigh.com or SnowSummit.com before heading to the slopes.
