Library sells autographed, first edition books to fund new computers

Staff Writer

The Hesperia library is counting on book enthusiasts to help fund the purchase of new computers.

The Friends of the Library have declared February to be “Love Your Library” month and kicked it off with a sale of 97 boxes of autographed books. Once those are mostly cleared out, 118 boxes of first editions will be sold.

“As soon as this is done, we have a bunch of craft books” on quilting and other arts and crafts, said Karen Taylor, president of Friends of the Library.

The Friends of the Library are “really pushing it this (first) weekend,” said Andrea Parsons, treasurer of Friends of the Library, “but the month of February, we want everyone to ‘Love the Library.’”

The group is attempting to raise $50,000 to replace the library’s worn-out computers. The Hesperia branch library is the third-busiest in the county, and one of the few open seven days a week, and its public computers are in near-constant use. The group had raised $7,000 as of Feb. 3.

“We’ve had great community support,” Parsons said. “We just need a whole lot more.”
