Two escape from AV house fire

APPLE VALLEY • Two lucky residents escaped unharmed Monday after smoke and fire erupted out of the ceiling around a wood burning stove, according to an Apple Valley Fire Protection District news release.

At 4:10 a.m., firefighters responded to a 911 call of a residential structure fire in the 10000 block of Caribou Road in southern Apple Valley, the release said.

After firefighters found heavy smoke coming from attic vents, firefighters attacked the fire from the roof to contain the fire to its room of origin, according to AVFPD Deputy Fire Marshal Jason Nailon.

While no one was injured, the fire caused approximately $8,000 in damage to the home, said Nailon.

The cause of fire remains under investigation, but investigators are looking closely at proper installation methods of the wood burning stove piping, according to Nailon.
