HopeWorksUnited spreads volunteer spirit
Sharing a passion for compassion
“It’s about letting people know that we love them and we care for them,” said Vince Sapina, founder and executive director of the local volunteer organization HopeWorksUnited.
HopeWorksUnited serves people in big ways and small ones. Volunteers might spend an afternoon on random acts of kindness, such as handing out cold bottled water on a hot day. They also do projects for those in need. Last weekend, they did landscape work for a single mother whose backyard was overrun with weeds.
But the nonprofit is giving much more than free yard work.
HopeWorksUnited had 280 volunteers at last count, but that number rises almost daily, thanks to word of mouth and their presence on Facebook. Their goal for this year is to have 12 participating churches, covering an area from Big Bear to Barstow, Phelan to Adelanto. But they don’t plan to stop there.
