Parolee at large following high speed car chase
HESPERIA • Deputies are searching for a parolee who led deputies on a high speed car chase that left two injured early Wednesday morning, San Bernardino County officials say.
At 2:11 a.m., Hesperia deputies attempted to stop a vehicle to check expired registration near Cottonwood Avenue and Sultana Road, according to Hesperia watch commander Sgt. Colleen Kuhn.
The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the deputies, who pursued the suspect for approximately 2.5 miles in a high speed car chase, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Cindy Bachman.
The chase ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a tree near Lime and Cactus streets, according to Kuhn.
The suspect, who fled the crashed vehicle on foot, is believed to be Thomas Barnett, 28, a parolee at large, according to Bachman.
There were two passengers in the suspect’s vehicle. Both were injured and were transported to Desert Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to Kuhn.
It is unknown if the suspect sustained any injuries, but he did not visit any local hospitals for treatment, Bachman said.
Hesperia deputies are continuing to search for the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to call sheriff’s dispatch at (760) 245-4211 or WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME.
