Battle of the Badge vies for blood donations

Public encouraged to attend event

HESPERIA • In the spirit of friendly competition and helping those in need, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Hesperia Station is hosting its seventh annual "Battle of the Badges" blood drive on Wednesday to see which public safety entity can donate the most blood and ultimately save the most lives, according to a press release from the station.

Premature babies, accident victims and cancer and burn patients are just a few examples of people helped by blood donations, according to the news release. Less than 3 percent of people who live in the region donate blood.

As an incentive, each participant will receive a Battle of the Badges T-shirt and a coupon for a free appetizer to Mimi’s Café.

The public is encouraged to attend Wednesday's event from 11 am. to 5 p.m. at the Hesperia Police Station, 15840 SmokeTree Street in Hesperia. Identification is required to donate.
