Apple Valley man killed in freeway accident
SAN BERNARDINO • An Apple Valley resident lost control while driving on Interstate 215, was ejected from his vehicle and killed, officials said Wednesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, Gilbert Diaz Jr., 51, lost control of his white Toyota van while driving northbound on the I-215 near the Palm Avenue offramp in San Bernardino. The van veered off the road and rolled over the embankment, landing on the Palm Avenue offramp, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner.
Just before 5 p.m., officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the single-vehicle collision, and found that Diaz had been ejected from his van.
At 5:22 p.m., San Bernardino County Fire Department officials declared Diaz dead on scene, according to the report.
No further information has been released about the cause of the accident, which is still under investigation by the CHP.
