Man barely escapes early morning AV fire

APPLE VALLEY • A senior resident barely escaped with his life Friday as an early morning fire destroyed his home, according to an Apple Valley Fire Protection District news release.

Firefighters responded to a travel trailer fire at 5 a.m. in the 11600 block of Cottontail Road, just east of Jess Ranch Lakes, the release said.

Upon arrival, firefighters found an adult male in his 70’s who had escaped the trailer in time. The fire was in danger of spreading to nearby structures, according to AVFPD Fire Investigator Brian Pachman.

Firefighters attacked the blaze, but were unable to save the trailer. The resident was transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation, Pachman said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however investigators are looking closely at small heaters that were placed too close to combustible items, the release said.
